I have lived near Castro Street in Mountain View for more than 20 years. Many restaurants have come and gone, but there are two Japanese places that stand out. One is Tomi, the most authentic. The other is Bushdo, where I just went for the first time.on a Wednesday night. VERY fresh Maguro tuna (I noted that they identified the source and catching method for each fish according to the Monterey Bay Aquarium guidelines). Great Tai Snapper Zen rolls. The pork buns were made with succulent Kurabota pork and were served like a sandwich, with the steamed bun cut open to receive the meat, lettuce, and carrot shreds. But the kodai sashimi was a masterpiece. The fish was presented in an arc, posing on a platform of seaweed with ginger, shishito peppers, wasabe, micro greens, and a shizo leaf. The fish flesh was cut into curls. It was the freshest sashimi I have ever tasted. Sake was half price that night, and the edamame with garlic were terrific. The chef brought us a special shoyu sauce he had made to go with the kodai. He then made a soup out of the bones from the fish and served it to us. Service was attentive and friendly. A real discovery.
